Egas Moniz @ Almada ID - sharing clean energy with the community through solar power

On May 22th 2025, the Egas Moniz School of Health & Science launched its first Energy Community within Almada ID, marking a key step in advancing renewable energy solutions.

Held in Almada, Portugal, the initiative includes 730 solar panels on campus and 189 at the senior residence. This clean energy powers the university and supports local residents and businesses within 4 km.

Aligned with SDGs 7, 11, 13, and 17, the project exemplifies scientific leadership in sustainability, that reflects CiiEM’s research.

As part of CiiEM’s research agenda on sustainability, energy justice, and urban transformation, this initiative also contributes to evidence-based strategies that promote resilient health and social systems.
