On June 6th, 2025, Egas Moniz participated in the IX Domestic Violence Seminar – Current Challenges, co-organized by the "Polícia Judiciária" and the “Espaço Cidadania e Justiça” office, in Lisbon, Portugal.
This seminar addressed judicial responses to domestic violence, the impact on mental health, the vulnerability of immigrant victims, and the risk factors associated with homicide.
As president of the Victim Support and Information Office (GIAV), Iris Almeida, an integrated member of CiiEM, along with team members Cristina Soeiro and Ricardo Bauto, represents CiiEM in this field. Together, they work in close collaboration with the "Ministério Público" and the "Polícia Judiciária" to promote forensic psychological evaluation and risk prevention in domestic violence cases. Ongoing research includes scientific revision of the Domestic Violence Risk Assessment Tool (RVD-R risk assessment tool)
The President of Egas Moniz, José João Mendes, was also present at the event, reinforcing the institution’s ongoing commitment and support in addressing the complex and urgent challenges of domestic violence.
This work reflects the institution’s strong commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
