Mariana Morgado @ Egas Moniz – first woman awarded PhD in Biomedical Sciences

On July 22nd 2025, Mariana Morgado became the first woman to earn a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Egas Moniz School of Health & Science, marking a historic milestone.
Her thesis, focused on innovative, video-based, case teaching in dental education, integrated cross-curricular pedagogy with scientific rigor.
The research, supported by three Q1 publications, reflects CiiEM’s commitment to impactful health sciences education.
The public defense, held in Almada, Portugal, was unanimously approved with distinction. This achievement highlights scientific excellence and gender equity in research and academia.
